RE-STORYING

THE PROCESS OF RECONSTRUCTING NEW MEANING FROM OLD NARRATIVES

The world is entering into a process of re-storying itself. Individuals, communities and cultures are discovering that their old narratives no longer make sense in our globalised society. The legends and lessons of the past can be utilised to fuel the mythology of our shared future but only if we are able to jump beyond the confines of our narrative identities. We are being given the chance to be reborn and re-story what it means to be human.

Myth itself is a transformative structure that can either inspire us into new ways of thinking and acting, or scare us into holding back and limiting ourselves within the safe confines of old habits. The good news is that all over the world we are starting to see people challenge the old myths. We are beginning to rewrite our human stories to change the course of our future. We are reinventing our collective human purpose and identity.

IT IS TIME TO REDESIGN
AND REDEFINE OUR HUMAN STORIES

“Our human world is made of stories. They flow through the veins of our societies like blood; unseen and yet vital to the course of our lives. They are our primary way of making sense of our experiences and the course of our lives; personally and collectively.”

Genevieve Boast, Tough Bliss

STORYTELLING TO STORYMAKING

The telling of stories is an ancient art form. They create and weave together our cultures, systems and societies and are our primary way of making meaning in life. They can appear ingrained and hard to change but the reality is that our stories are themselves in a constant process of evolution. Just like us. Just like life. All we need in order to consciously change them are the keys and practices that move us from the ethereal world of dreams, visions and words into the tangible, material world of actions. We need our storytelling to inform and invigorate our storymaking. It is for this reason that Beyond Human Stories exists.

THE RESTORY CYCLE

The process of retsorying our lives is an alchemical journey. It takes our essential spark of genius that we are born with, through a process of tests where we experience ourselves as isolated and alone in the world in various ways. Through our struggle’s and challenges, the elements of our deeper story start to join together, giving us clues to our personal mythology. From here, if we are brave enough, we undergo a process of death and metamorphosis where the imaginal cells of our authentic narrative fuse into a new identity.

THIS REINITIATION LEADS TO THE EVENTUAL DISTILLATION OF OUR GIFTS AND THE FINAL STAGE OF UNITY WHERE ‘ME’ MERGES COMPLETELY WITH ‘WE’ AND THE STORY OF INTERCONNECTION IS BROUGHT ALIVE THROUGH US INTO THE WORLD.

 OUR ARCHETYPES ARE CHANGING

As our stories evolve, so do the characters that form them. Throughout recorded history certain core human archetypes have danced through our collective imaginations. All we must do is look to a myth-making system like Hollywood or indeed the Tarot to see how our understanding of the archetypal nature of life has changed and continues to do so. Archetypes like the Hero, Guru and Fool are still present and yet have evolved into new forms. The core archetypes we are seeing in the world right now are trans-gender, trans-culture, trans-dogma. They are archetypes that appeal to our transforming human mythology and unite rather than separate us.

THEY ARE THE ADVENTURERS, REBELS, WARRIORS AND LOVERS OF OUR NEW AGE.

We must step fully into the irony and beauty of our dance between individuation and unity: ‘me’ leads to ‘we’. We are each unique and we are each here to live our lives in service to something greater than the small egos personalities that our current social systems try so hard to maintain. Egos can be controlled, souls cannot.
